Them Before Us

Them Before Us is an advocacy organization that opposes marriage equality, surrogacy, and many forms of legal recognition for LGBTQ families, arguing that children have an inherent right to be raised by a mother and father.

The organization has also funded billboard campaigns promoting these positions and encouraging the public to adopt its view of family.

Critics argue that these campaigns stigmatize LGBTQ parents and their children by portraying their families as inherently less valid or less desirable than heterosexual families.

Founder Katy Faust

Hi, I'm Katy Faust. At some point I looked around at millions of loving families and thought, "You know what this conversation needs? Me."

I became convinced that children can only truly thrive if they're raised by their biological mother and father, and I've dedicated my career to promoting that belief, even when it means opposing marriage equality, surrogacy, and legal recognition for many LGBTQ families.

Along the way I founded Them Before Us, where I like telling countless children their families don't count.

Today I travel the world explaining why my definition of family should carry more weight than yours. Thankfully, I rarely have to explain it to the children actually being raised in loving LGBTQ households. They tend to complicate the narrative.
